Project Fly-Over Haarlem A200

The municipality of Haarlem is fully committed to improving the city’s accessibility. To better manage traffic flows toward the city center, traffic from the A200 needed to be rerouted—not through a residential area, but via the Waarderpolder industrial zone. The new flyover across the railway provides a direct, safe, and smooth connection—and is therefore a key part of Haarlem’s ring road.

Haarlem is an attractive, welcoming city with 150,000 residents. The city is undergoing major development, bringing with it many new opportunities.

The challenge

Building on a busy traffic route

The work took place on one of Haarlem’s busiest access roads. The A200 had to remain largely open to traffic during construction. Careful phasing was therefore essential. Traffic was temporarily rerouted while the flyover was built step by step. Only after completion could the A200 be connected to the new layout. A complex logistical challenge in an urban setting, where accessibility, safety, and communication had to go hand in hand.

For the relocation of cables and pipelines, we ensured clear coordination with all parties involved—from Rijkswaterstaat to the municipality of Haarlem and surrounding road authorities. Thanks to our oversight and precise coordination, the work could be carried out safely and on schedule, without making the city inaccessible.

The Flyover Haarlem A200 is not just a traffic engineering improvement, but also a striking new landmark at the entrance to Haarlem. Its distinctive design contributes to both traffic flow and the city’s appearance.
